Plain English summary: inkbookd collects information you give us (like your name and payment details) and some information automatically (like your device type). We use it to run the app, process bookings and payments, and keep you connected with your artist. We do not sell your personal information. Ever.
1. Who We Are
inkbookd, Inc. ("inkbookd," "we," "us," or "our") operates a mobile and web application that connects tattoo clients with tattoo artists and studios for the purpose of discovering artists, booking appointments, communicating, and processing payments for tattoo services (the "Service").
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the Service. It applies to all users — clients, artists, and studio accounts — located in the United States.
By creating an account or using inkbookd, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide directly
- Account information: name, email address, phone number, password, profile photo, and date of birth.
- Profile and booking details: preferred tattoo style, reference images you upload, appointment requests, booking notes, and consultation messages.
- Artist and studio information: for artist/studio accounts, portfolio images, business name, studio address, availability, and pricing.
- Payment information: billing name, billing address, and payment card or bank details. Full card numbers are collected and stored by Stripe — not by inkbookd directly (see Section 5).
- Consent waiver data: electronic signatures, waiver responses, and the date and time of signing, collected when a client signs a consent waiver through the Service (see Section 6).
- Artist shop data: for artists, product listings including artwork, merchandise descriptions, pricing, and course content uploaded to the Artist Shop (see Section 7).
- Communications: messages sent through in-app messaging between clients and artists, and any messages you send to our support team.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data: IP address, device type, operating system, browser type, app version, and general usage patterns (pages viewed, features used, session length).
- Location information: approximate location derived from your IP address, and precise location only if you grant permission, used to show nearby artists or studios.
- Cookies and similar technologies: used on our website and within the app to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and understand how the Service is used.
2.3 Information from third parties
- Payment processors: confirmation of payment status, transaction amount, and limited card metadata (card type and last four digits) from Stripe.
- Login providers: if you sign in using Apple, Google, or Facebook, we receive basic profile information (name and email) as authorised by you.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and maintain your account.
- Facilitate appointment bookings, rescheduling, and cancellations between clients and artists.
- Process payments and deposits, and send payment receipts and confirmations.
- Enable in-app messaging between clients and artists.
- Send appointment reminders and booking-related notifications.
- Store and make available electronically signed consent waivers to both artists and clients.
- Operate the Artist Shop, including listing, selling, and fulfilling purchases of artwork, merchandise, and courses.
- Respond to customer support requests.
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- Improve and maintain the Service, including troubleshooting and analytics.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
Reference images you upload for a booking are shared only with the artist(s) you are booking with, unless you choose to post them publicly within the app.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:
Mobile messaging: No mobile information (including phone numbers) will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All other categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
- With artists and studios: when you book an appointment, the artist or studio receives booking details, your name, contact information, signed waiver data, and any notes or reference images you provide.
- With clients: artist and studio profiles, portfolios, and availability are visible to clients using the Service.
- With service providers: third-party vendors who perform services on our behalf — such as payment processing (Stripe), cloud hosting, customer support tools, and analytics — under contractual obligations to protect your data.
- For legal reasons: if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of inkbookd, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
- With your consent: for any other purpose disclosed to you at the time of collection, with your agreement.
5. Payment Processing (Stripe)
inkbookd processes all payments through Stripe, a third-party payment processor that is PCI-DSS compliant. This includes booking deposits, Artist Shop purchases, and artist subscription fees.
inkbookd does not store full payment card numbers on its own servers. Payment card data is collected and held by Stripe. By using the payment features of the Service, you also agree to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
We retain limited transaction records (amount, date, status, and last four digits of the card) for receipts, refunds, dispute resolution, and accounting purposes. Artists and studios receive payout information necessary to process and reconcile transactions but do not have access to your full payment card details.
6. Electronic Consent Waivers
inkbookd provides artists with the ability to collect electronically signed consent waivers from clients as part of the booking and deposit process. When you sign a waiver through the Service, the following information is collected and stored:
- Your electronic signature and the date and time of signing.
- The content of the waiver as presented to you at the time of signing.
- Your name and account details associated with the signature.
Signed waivers are stored securely within the Service and are accessible to both the artist and the client. Both parties may download a PDF copy of a signed waiver for their personal records.
Waiver content is created by individual artists and studios. inkbookd does not control or take responsibility for the content of any consent waiver. Waiver data is retained for the duration of your account and for as long as legally required thereafter.
7. Artist Shop — Artwork, Merchandise & Courses
Artists with an active subscription may operate an Artist Shop within the Service to sell original artwork, merchandise, and educational courses. When you make a purchase through an Artist Shop, we collect and process the following:
- Your name, email address, and billing information (processed by Stripe).
- Your purchase history within the Service.
- Delivery information if applicable for physical merchandise.
Purchase data is shared with the relevant artist to facilitate fulfilment of your order. inkbookd is not responsible for the delivery, quality, or content of any Artist Shop product. Artist Shop transactions are subject to each artist's stated refund policy.
8. In-App Messaging
inkbookd provides a direct messaging feature that allows clients and artists to communicate within the app. Messages sent through this feature are stored on our servers and are accessible to both the sender and recipient.
inkbookd does not read or monitor private messages except where necessary to investigate reports of abuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms of Service, or where required by law.
Messages are retained for the duration of your account and for a reasonable period after account deletion to support dispute resolution and legal compliance.
We do not share in-app messages with third parties except as described in Section 4 of this Privacy Policy.
9. Mobile Communications & SMS
inkbookd may send transactional SMS or push notifications to your mobile device related to your bookings, deposits, appointment reminders, and account activity.
No mobile information (including phone numbers) will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
You may opt out of SMS notifications at any time by replying STOP to any message or by updating your notification preferences in the app. You cannot opt out of critical transactional messages related to your active bookings or account security.
10. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. After account deletion, we retain certain information as required for legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution purposes, after which it is deleted or anonymised.
Booking and payment transaction records are generally retained for a minimum of 7 years to comply with financial recordkeeping obligations.
Signed consent waiver records are retained for the duration of your account and for as long as legally required or requested by either the artist or client.
